Country Day's Evening of Design

In March, Country Day held its first annual Evening of Design. Kindergarten through senior exhibitors shared their projects that incorporated math, science, the arts, and the design and engineering process. Each project was crafted to solve a problem, explain a process, or model a new idea.
Kindergarteners shared projects that illustrated the concepts of balance, force, vibration, and sound as they balanced nails on a peg, applied weight to pop a balloon, and spun bolts around the inside of a balloon to make various sounds. Seventh graders shared website designs they created in concert with students in Pakistan and Ghana. Upper school students shared Arduino projects that they hope might one day enhance the Mardi Gras experience by automating float colors, lights, and sounds. Overall, it was an exquisite night of exploration and fun.
"I hope our guests gained a new perspective on what learning can look like in our classrooms and that we further excited and inspired the next generation of thinkers," said Country Day Middle and Upper School Science Department Chair and Teacher, Kate Turnbull.
