  • A Balanced Education

From my classroom perch on Founder’s Terrace, I have the pleasure to see our lower school cohorts at play. What I have surmised about these operations is that there are definitive rules, rituals, and practices at work with room for a bit of whimsy. As the late Dutch historian Johan Huizinga commented “All play means something,” and what I am witnessing is a repose from the banality of modern existence, an alternative reality going back to the primordial self that we deeply need.

Head of School Rob Hereford celebrated his first day at Country Day on July 1! Mr. Hereford is Metairie Park Country Day School’s 10th Head of School.

  • Ogden Virtual Field Trip

First through fifth-grade students participated in their second field trip in our series of Ogden Museum virtual field trips. The students learned about Clementine Hunter and participated in an art activity. Then, thanks to generosity of the Weinmann family, they were able to view six unique works by Ms. Hunter that the Weinmann family arranged to display in the Lower School Atrium. Our Pre-K and Kindergarten students also participated in an Ogden virtual field trip focused on the book Matthew’s Dream.
  • Shannon Barrilleaux to serve on SACAC 2021 Board

Mrs. Barrilleaux will serve on the #SACAC2021 Board as National College Fairs Co-Chair. SACAC or The Southern Association for College Admission Counseling is a non-profit membership association promoting high professional standards in the college admission process. We are proud to see one of our own leading the way in College Counseling on and off campus!
  • Woodworking Wonders

At first glance it might appear that our students are showing off fine works from an antique or furniture store, however, these are all pieces they created in woodworking class.
  • Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom

In 1963, thirteen-year-old Lynda Blackmon heard Dr. Martin Luther King speak in Selma, Alabama. She was inspired by his message to become actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement and “to fight discrimination non-violently, with steady, loving, confrontation.” Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom, a musical and documentary viewed by our Middle and Upper School students, tells her true story.
