Senior Jane Thompson is the Third Young Woman in Louisiana to be Named an Eagle Scout

Eagle Scout represents the pinnacle of achievement in Scouting for young individuals. Merely about 5% of all Scouts ever attain this prestigious rank. Since its inception in 1912, over 2 million young men have earned the esteemed title of Eagle Scout within the Boy Scouts of America. Notably, in Louisiana, only four females have achieved this distinction, with Senior Jane Thompson standing as the third female in the state to receive this honor.

Jane is an active member of Troop 150 in the Fleur de Lis District under the South East Louisiana Council. She has held the position of Senior Patrol Leader for a commendable two-year term and is also a distinguished member of the Order of the Arrow, which recognizes Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Jane officially became a part of Scouts BSA on February 1, 2019, following the organization's acceptance of female members. Making history, Jane became the inaugural female member of Scouts BSA Troop 150 at Lakeview Presbyterian Church in New Orleans. She then achieved the prestigious Eagle Rank in November 2023.

Jane's involvement in scouting traces back to her early days attending Cub Scout meetings with her brother, later followed by a year in Girl Scouts. Finding her passion aligned with the Cub Scouts, Jane joined and swiftly excelled, surpassing her brother in merit badges and rank. Encouraged by her Cubmaster, Rodney Ziegler, Jane embraced the role of a trailblazer for girls in scouting, paving the way for future female members of Scouts BSA. She has participated in summer camps at Camp Orr, Camp Woodruff, and Camp V-Bar.

For her Eagle Project, Jane leveraged skills acquired in Mr. Turner's wood shop classes to oversee the construction and installation of three little free libraries at two public schools in New Orleans (Hynes-Parkview and Hynes-UNO) and at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, with the assistance of fellow scouts and adults. The culmination of Jane's exceptional journey was marked by her Court of Honor ceremony in November 2023.

Recently, on March 19, Jane attended the Council Banquet, where she joined fellow Eagle Scouts of 2023 for a celebratory dinner and medal presentation. Notably, Jane was also honored with the president's pin during the Banquet.
