Building Community: Country Day Students and Faculty Attend the NAIS People of Color Conference

This year, the Country Day delegation included Jenny Irwin (Upper School Faculty), Charlotte Lin (Associate Director of Admission), Danielle Staggers (Director of College Counseling), and students Alaya Boddon '26, Lia Beverly, Chloe Jones '25, and Hope Singleton '25.
Each year, Country Day sends at least two adults to the NAIS People of Color Conference (PoCC), an independent school conference devoted to issues of equity and justice. The conference's mission is to provide a safe space for leadership opportunities and professional development for people of color and allies of all backgrounds in independent schools. While this adult event is going on, there is a concurrent event for students. The NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference is a multiracial, multicultural gathering of student leaders from the U.S. and abroad. SDLC focuses on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community. Led by a diverse team of trained adult and peer facilitators, participating students develop cross-cultural communication skills, design effective strategies for social justice practice through dialogue and the arts, and learn the foundations of allyship.

We look forward to all the ideas they will bring to our campus through their leadership!
