Middle School Serving Others

In December, our entire Middle School spent the morning hours giving, helping, and serving others.

Some of the students made sandwiches and cookies, decorated pillowcases, shopped for requested necessities, fabricated and decorated treasure boxes, and packaged toiletry packs and snack packs, all for people experiencing homelessness. Another group of students embroidered quilt squares for a baby blanket. Other students traveled to the Unity for the Homeless Warehouse to organize items and prepare ready-to-go kitchen and bedroom sets for Unity clients who will soon be moving into homes and housing. Two groups of students built and painted small, portable bookshelves that will go to families transitioning from homelessness to having a place to live. Other students had the opportunity to care for the environment by planting 120 trees and spreading mulch in City Park, preparing rain barrels for Greenlight NOLA, and sorting glass bottles for Glass Half Full. Students also helped right here on campus in a classroom that needed all furniture removed, prepping the dining room for the holidays, and helping in the Lower School. Some furry friends at the SPCA even got some extra love from our students! By giving, helping, and serving others, our students learned more about needs within our larger community and helped to make a difference in other people’s lives as well as their own. Please take a look at this video that captures the work and the spirit of our two mornings of service for others.
