Country Day's Brainstorm Troopers named Junior Division Champions
Metairie Park Country Day School’s Future Problem Solvers team, The Brainstorm Troopers, was recently recognized as Junior Division Champions (grades 4-6) during the 36th annual competition in Austin, Texas. These Country Day students represented the state of Louisiana in the Global Issues Problem Solving Competition.
Global Issues Problem Solving is a competitive component of Future Problem Solving Program International in which participants research a series of global topics and learn a six-step creative problem-solving process. In competition, participants apply their knowledge and the problem-solving process to address a Future Scene, an imagined situation set in the future. Topics for the Future Scenes include global issues in the areas of business and economics, science and technology, and social and political.
"This competition is wonderful because it challenges students to apply what they have learned in many different content areas in new and interesting situations," said Lower School Science Teacher Elizabeth Lewis. "Students must draw on creative behaviors that they are working to develop such as fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and the synthesis of different ideas in order to identify and then solve global problems that do not yet exist. Our students were some of the youngest at the competition, yet we were able to compete because our team worked hard and our foundation was strong. We look forward to competing in the International Competition.”

The Country Day team now advances to the International Competition, which will be held at Michigan State University in June. The Country Day Future Problem Solvers will compete in the Junior Division against 55 other teams from 13 countries.
