K/1/2 Lead Teacher and 2015 NOLA Baby and Family Teacher of the Year (yes, she is famous)!
Where did you attend college, and what were your fields of study?
Tulane for BA (double major - early childhood educ and child psych) and Tulane MEd with reading specialty
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
Building relationships with kids and witnessing that "aha" moment! Teaching a child to read is pretty cool!
What do you enjoy most about Country Day?
Having students and families for three years or even longer. (Once I had a family for 9 years straight!) Multi-age grouping is such a unique, amazing environment. I also love being part of this caring community that has supported me in so many ways over the years.
If you had pursued another profession, what would it have been (or what was it if you did something else in the past)?
Something to do with genetics - I think that is a fascinating field.
If you could do anything other than teach, what would you like to do?
I'm too short to be a Rockette, so I think I would work for a non-profit that supports social justice in some way, especially one that focuses on the Hispanic population in NOLA.
Tell me about an interesting volunteer gig, vacation, hobby, or other experience outside of work that you've experienced?
I've worked in various parts of Second Harvest over the last few years. I've helped the case workers in the office, sorted food in the warehouse, harvested satsumas, and this summer I tried out the community kitchen, which means I packaged meals that were delivered to places around the city.
Have you won any awards that you don't mind bragging about (professionally or otherwise)?
NOLA Baby & Family 2016 Teacher of the Year was pretty cool! :)
What is a secret about you that you don't mind sharing?
I am an excellent Just Dance Wii player and can get pretty competitive. Just ask my kids. :) I also remember song lyrics pretty well, so that makes for some great karaoke.
Do you speak any foreign languages? If not, which would you like to speak if you had the opportunity to learn it?
Spanish, and I would love to learn French and Italian.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
I would love to go any place that I've never been, so that pretty much means anywhere from Oregon to India to Ghana to Peru.....
What historical or literary figure do you most admire?
Eleanor Roosevelt - she was so courageous and way ahead of her time, fighting for the rights of so many. My favorite quote of hers is, "A woman is like a tea bag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water." So true!
