Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, U.S. Department of State
Roy Perrin 1980 recently left the Iraqi Kurdistan Region where he served as the Deputy Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, and is now back in Washington D.C. working on Central America issues in the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Before his Iraq service, Roy served several months as the Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. at the Embassy of the United States in San José, Costa Rica, where he was also the Embassy’s Counselor for Political, Economic and Narcotics Affairs. Roy also worked in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China as an economic officer, and served for an extended period as acting Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu, China. He’s also worked overseas at embassies in Caracas, Venezuela and Bangkok, Thailand, and in Washington, D.C. in the State Department’s Operations Center Crisis Management office. Roy’s foreign languages include Spanish, Thai, Chinese, and “whatever French he still remembers from Mr. Swain’s class at Country Day.” He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from Tulane Law School, is married to Michele A. Perrin and they have a daughter, Isabel, who is a recent graduate of the College of William & Mary.
