Varsity Swim Team has Record-Breaking Start to 2024 Season
Despite weather delays that postponed the season start by a few weeks, the Varsity Swim Team has kicked off the 2024 season with impressive performances. After the initial meets of the season, the Cajuns have already surpassed 50 state-qualifying swims, compared to 36 last season, while breaking numerous team records
At the opening meet on September 18, 14 swimmers achieved at least one state-qualifying time, accumulating 23 state-qualifying swims. On the girls' side, 8 Country Day swimmers were among the top 13 finishers in the 50 free. On the boys' side, all 12 Country Day swimmers placed 19th or higher out of 35 competitors, with notable 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The boys' 400 free relay team, consisting of Aidan MacLean '26, Harper Beezley '27, Taylor Alexander '25, and Cole Devenport '25, set a new school record with a time of 4:10.67, breaking the record set at last year’s State Championship Meet. The team finished second overall at the meet, earning 580 points.
At the second meet on September 21 at Newman, the team earned 11 additional state-qualifying swims, bringing the season total to 33. The boys' medley relay team of Truman Favret '26, Harper Beezley '27, Taylor Alexander '25, and Cole Devenport '25 set a new school record of 2:02.92, surpassing a record set in 2015.
The momentum continued at the third meet on September 25, as the team took first place over six other teams, including several Division 1 teams. Both the girls' and boys' teams clinched wins, scoring nearly 300 points more than the second-place team. In the 100 fly, Cole Devenport '25 claimed victory, while Zoey Gallagher '28 took second for the girls. Taylor Alexander '25, Harper Beezley '27, Truman Favret '26, and Xander Roniger '25 ) dominated the boys' 100 free, securing 2nd through 5th places. In the girls' 200 free relay, Iskra Jurkovic '27, Peetsie Goldenberg '25, Chloe Jones '25, and Eloise Schild '26 won with the season's best time of 2:01.08. The meet finished with triumphs in the 400 free relay, as both the girls’ team (Peetsie Goldenberg '25, Zoey Gallagher '28, Caroline Hawney '30, Eloise Schild '26) and boys’ team (Harper Beezley '27, Kaelan MacLean '28, Austin Singer '27, and Aidan MacLean '26) took first place.
