Four Seniors Celebrate their College Signings to Play Football

Four football players who have been at Country Day together since kindergarten held a collective signing ceremony at Country Day. Defensive lineman Jake Ibieta '23 (LSU), receiver Yash Gupta '23 (Tulane), running back Jack Schwing '23 (Southern Miss), and tight end Clayton Gehman '23 (Rhodes) each celebrated with friends and family inside Weinmann Auditorium as they committed to playing collegiate football.

“We all talked about how we wanted to play college football, and when senior year started, a lot of us were trying to get recruited,” Gupta said. “Then, once all of us got our offers in, we made up this group chat and we said, 'We’re all signing together.' "

Jake Ibieta, Yash Gupta, and Jack Schwing all signed as preferred walk-ons at their respective schools. At Rhodes, Clayton Gehman will join NCAA Division III program. The four have been at Country Day together since they were in kindergarten.

"This is the largest amount of signed athletes we've had in my 25 years at the school from one season," commented Athletic Director Mike McGuire.

During the signing ceremony, Head Coach Chris Chetta commended the four football players for their leadership and perseverance.
