Specials

Country Day goes beyond the core academic subjects and provides a diverse range of enrichment classes, known as “specials.”

These classes ensure a well-rounded education that nurtures the whole child. They encompass various creative and physical outlets, including visual art, music, band and orchestra, physical education, and library classes. Starting in 3rd grade, students can engage in Explorations, which are interest-based groups that regularly meet throughout the school year. Our 5th graders help with morning meetings and carpools and serve as mentors to our Pre-K students through a buddy program.

Technology in Lower School

Country Day incorporates technology throughout Lower School, leveraging instructional technology to enhance learning and communication. While Pre-K classrooms do not have dedicated computers, students are allowed limited opportunities to utilize selected applications under teacher guidance during project-based activities. As students progress to higher grade levels, they acquire skills such as keyboarding and use computers as valuable tools for writing, research, and project work.

Students learn formal programming, coding, and advanced instructional technology. They also gain experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In 5th grade, students have laptops for school use, enabling them to become familiar with Google Workspace. Essential lessons on digital citizenship and computer fundamentals are integrated into the technology curriculum. Students embark on a semester-long study of Computer Science and a semester-long class focusing on technology.
