Mathematics

Children have a wide variety of manipulative materials to explore in Pre-K. They discuss spatial relationships, patterns, measurement, and problem-solving. Through an abundance of intentional, concrete experiences with materials, students comfortably develop the early concepts necessary for confident number sense. 

In these classrooms, math concepts are taught and continually reinforced through concrete experiences and practice using manipulative math materials in individual and small group direct instruction and focused discussions. An emphasis is placed on developing mathematical reasoning and number sense through problem-solving.

Through Math & You, a comprehensive mathematics curriculum, students focus on connecting mathematics to the real world. The program builds a strong foundation by emphasizing conceptual understanding and problem-solving, while also developing fluency and confidence. Students discover how math is applied in everyday life and future careers, helping them understand not only how math works, but also why it matters.

Fifth-grade students are at the age-appropriate time for textbooks and grades. New concepts are introduced first using manipulatives and real-life examples before moving to the abstract.
