Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced elementary grade teacher who enjoys working with young people to fill the full-time position of Lower School Science Teacher and Fifth Grade Computer Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Science, Computer Science, and STEM -teaching experience and a degree in a science-related field are preferred. This full-time, 10-month position includes eligibility to participate in our comprehensive benefits package along with all school-year holidays. The Lower School Science Teacher reports to the Lower School Principal.
Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:
- Fostering the innate curiosity of our lower school students while developing their scientific knowledge.
- Creating an engaging and supportive classroom environment where students are able to observe, ask questions, and conduct experiments.
- Facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity through the applied use of computational technology for digital age learning.
- Managing the physical resources in accordance with the science department budget.
- Supporting the vertical alignment of content and skills within the science curriculum, PK-12.
- Working well with colleagues to research, collaborate, and plan best practices of teaching and learning.
- Being open-minded and flexible.
- Being an open and active participant in professional learning.
- Being an active member of the community as we work toward DEI goals.
- Being an active member of our Country Day community, which could include some activities such as coaching and/or after-school clubs.
- Attending and participating in faculty, grade level, and departmental meetings.
- Supporting professional development opportunities, both scheduled and outside work hours, as needed.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or a division principal.
- Supporting the Mission of the School and its leadership.
- Being an active member of a community that centers inclusion and belonging; guiding students toward upholding the value in diversity of cultures, beliefs and perspectives, as well as supporting them in navigating issues inherent in equity and justice.
