Full-Time Upper School History Teacher

Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced and enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working with young people to fill the position of Full-Time Upper School History Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. A Bachelor’s degree in History or a social science is required. Prior teaching experience and an advanced degree are preferred. This full-time, 10-month position includes a comprehensive benefits package along with all school-year holidays. 

 


Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Teaching Civics courses in grades 9-12; the ability to teach additional history or social science course is preferred. 
  • Implementing rigorous instruction and all necessary preparation for effective student learning.
  • Advising Upper School students. 
  • Attending and participating in faculty, grade level, and departmental meetings.
  • Supporting professional development opportunities, both scheduled and outside work hours, as needed. 
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or a division principal.
  • Supporting the Mission of the School and its leadership. 
  • Being an active member of a community that centers inclusion and belonging; guiding students toward upholding the value in diversity of cultures, beliefs and perspectives, as well as supporting them in navigating issues inherent in equity and justice.

The goals of the Country Day History Department are to instill a passion for history and civic engagement in every Upper School student, equipping all students with the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to understand and engage meaningfully with the world around them.  The department offers advanced courses across its curriculum, and students are encouraged to explore those. We are equally committed to engaging students for whom history is not a primary interest, fostering an appreciation for the past and an informed perspective on the present in each and every learner.
