Country Day receives $10,000 grant from Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries 12/11/2006 When Country Day parent Lisa Ludwig heard about the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries, she immediately called Carolyn Chandler. Development Secretary Kathy Baudin heard the same announcement while she was driving in her car and made sure to pass the information along to the appropriate people at Country Day.
On November 29, the Advisory Committee of the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries announced that it has chosen Metairie Park Country Day School to receive a $10,000 grant to purchase books for the school's library.
This grant is a wonderful example of how word-of-mouth and collaboration can result in great things. Director of Libraries, Meb Norton, spent time filling in the appropriate details and participated in phone interviews. The Development Office submitted the appropriate paperwork and, when we were not selected during the first round of funding, Meb quickly suggested the we reapply for the second round. The result - $10,000 to replace precious library resources lost in the floodwaters resulting from Hurricane Katrina.
If you, too, know of grant opportunities, please pass them along to the school. It could result in much needed grant dollars!
