Country Day's 75th Birthday Fair
4/10/2005
A brilliant blue sky danced over a visual feast of activities at Country Day’s 75th Birthday Fair on Saturday. The brilliance of the blue must have been what Ralph Boothby, Country Day’s first headmaster, envisioned when he chose the blue of a Colorado sky as one of the School’s colors. How appropriate that an azure sky reigned over the festivities!

The Country Day Fair was a festival for the entire community. It magically transformed the courtyard into a celebration that erupted into hilarity when moms became human bowling balls and turned themselves into pretzels during Twister. Giggles and laughter rippled through the air as kids of all ages tried their skill at games of every sort and description. The inflatables delighted the youngest children and new activities, such as virtual drag racing, quickly engaged the imagination of young and old alike.

A fair in New Orleans wouldn’t be complete without food and dancing and neither were in short supply. A banquet of choices satisfied hungry fairgoers and dancing and karaoke on Founders Terrace unveiled some new Country Day Idols.

Entire families came to the Fair, along with grandparents and friends. Upper and middle school students helped set up and staff booths, as did faculty and staff. The real heavy lifting, however, was done by the Parents Association and its veritable army of parent volunteers, to whom we owe a debt of thanks and appreciation. More than 225 volunteers made the Fair a reality.

Chaired by the indefatigable Greer Reisig and Patti Todd, the Fair was the culmination of hours and hours of planning and organizing by Greer, Patti, and their dedicated committee. Our hats are off to you all for a magnificent fair that was an afternoon of sheer fun! The committee members - and the multitude of volunteers who made the Fair possible - will be recognized on the Web site in the near future. The Country Day Fair comes under the umbrella of the 75th Birthday Fund Raiser, chaired by Suzanne Rusovich and Cheryl Streiffer. Congratulations on a spectacular job!
