Middle School and Upper School Art Teacher

Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced arts teacher who enjoys working
with young people to fill the position of Middle and Upper School Art Teacher. The
full-time, 10-month position includes a comprehensive benefits package along with all
school year holidays. The Middle and Upper School Art Teacher reports to the Middle
and Upper School Principals.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Teaching middle and upper school art classes as assigned by the department chair
  • Supervision of extracurricular activities
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or a division principal
  • Supporting the Mission of the school and its leadership
The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher with the background to teach a
range of levels and a variety of techniques relevant to the artistic process including but
not limited to the following: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, as well as some
experience with digital arts. Applicants should also have a willingness to experiment and
be able to deliver effective critiques of student work in both group and individual
settings, interacting with students in a way that engages them in problem solving and risk
taking. Applicants should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Art Education.
In addition, every member of the Country Day arts faculty is expected to be a
professional artist working in his or her own field, thereby demonstrating our belief that
art is not an esoteric pursuit.
