Lower School 3/4 Teacher

 
Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced elementary grade teacher whose passion is working with young people to fill the full-time position of a multi-grade classroom teacher in a third and fourth grade classroom. A Bachelor’s degree is required, with an advanced degree preferred. Substantial experience teaching elementary-aged children is also preferred. This 10-month position includes eligibility to participate in our comprehensive benefits package along with all school year holidays. The Lower School Grades 3/4 Teacher reports to the Lower School Principal.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Co-creating a homeroom environment that supports our philosophy of strength of intellect and strength of character
  • Teaching all subjects including, but not limited to, language arts, math, geography/social studies, and history
  • Developing lesson plans, which provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Developing and implementing cross-curricular units of study that utilize active pedagogy and learning in a multi-age classroom
  • Assessing and defining student learning strengths and weaknesses; communicating with the larger student support team, including teachers,  parents, tutors, counselors, and learning specialists focused on progress and remediation
  • Teaching concepts with direct instruction that reaches diverse learners
  • Creating learning environments that are stimulating where the children can develop their potential and also experience growth
  • Helping students gain the appropriate attitude, skills, and knowledge
  • Using or creating evaluation tools to assess the progress of the students
  • Integrating technology into the curriculum
  • Communicating with parents and the school’s management on the progress of the children
  • Working well with colleagues to research, collaborate, and plan best practices for teaching and learning
  • Collaborating with the third/fourth grade team, divisional and departmental teams, as well as promoting and maintaining curricular alignment and enrichment
  • Being open-minded and flexible
  • Being an open and active participant in professional learning
  • Being an active member of the community as we work toward DEIB goals, undderstanding the need for building inclusive spaces.
  • Being an active member of our Country Day community which could include some activities such as coaching and/or after-school clubs
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or a division principal.
  • Supporting the Mission of the school and its leadership.
