On February 16, Country Day’s upper school team placed 5th at the Region I Science Olympiad Competition at Nicholls State University. Our team medaled in 6 of the 21 events that were offered. The team is now eligible to compete at the state competition which will be held on April 5 at Southeastern. This is the fourth consecutive year our team has qualified for the state competition. The students who medaled are:

3rd Place: Experimental Design – Stephanie Baranovic (12), Rudy Franklin (12), Andrew Shachat (10)

3rd Place: Circuit Lab – Stephanie Baranovic, Rudy Franklin

2nd Place: Forensics – Meredith Chehardy (10), Jessica Womack (10)

1st Place: Boomilever – Catherine Scully (10), Ben Gordon (10)

1st Place: Physics Lab – Stephanie Baranovic (12), Lauren Schully (12)

Other students competing on our team placed high enough in their events to bump us to our 5th place overall standing. This year, Country Day is the only independent school in the New Orleans metropolitan area that has qualified for the state competition.
