Cum Laude Society elects Faculty Members

Congratulations to Marigny Dupuy and Brad Philipson who were recently elected to the Cum Laude Society. Marigny Dupuy, Class of 1965, was appointed to the faculty in 1996 and currently teaches fifth grade. In addition to serving as assistant principal of the Upper School, Brad Philipson teaches English, is a sponsor of the senior class, and is the coordinator of community service. He joined the Country Day faculty in 2003.

The criteria for faculty membership are:
  • The individual will have received outstanding scholarly recognition, such as, a fellowship or an academic or educational award; or will have made an outstanding scholarly contribution, such as, a publication; or
  • The individual will have made a distinguished contribution to the academic life or to the prestige of the school.
  • The individual holds membership in Cum Laude, having been elected as a faculty member from a participating school.

Stuart Benjamin, Class of 1983, featured on C-Span

Stuart Benjamin was featured on C-Span’s The Communicators on January 30. The program will be rebroadcast on Monday, February 1, at 8 p.m. on C-Span 2.

As posted on cspan.org, “Stuart Benjamin is the FCC's first in-house Scholar in Residence and joins us to offer a philosophical perspective to policy issues. Mr. Benjamin explains his research and thinking to several matters currently being examined, including the use of digital spectrum to provide for broadband expansion and First Amendment issues.”


Gitter Named Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy

Mayna-Jean Gitter 2009 was honored on November 4th as the Outstanding Youth In Philanthropy at the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon, which is sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award recognizes service by an individual student who demonstrates outstanding commitment to the community through direct fundraising support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and leadership in philanthropy.

Manya-Jean Gitter graduated from Country Day in 2009 and currently attends the University of Pennsylvania. She has dedicated over 500 hours of community service work including organizing and implementing an awareness and fundraising campaign regarding the current state of Uganda. Living in Uganda for two month in 2008, under the auspices of the American Jewish World Service Volunteer Program, Manya-Jean studied Approaching Obligation to Global Poverty in the Developing World and served by building water tanks and dormitories for the vocational school in which she lived. Her other volunteer efforts locally include working with post-operative neurology patients at Touro Hospital, organizing a dual clothing drive and fundraiser for a Peruvian orphanage for teenagers and the victims of the 2007 earthquake, serving as a New Orleans delegate to the Anti-Defamation League National Youth Leadership Mission, tutoring at KIPP Believer Charter School and participating as a delegate of “Women of the Storm.”
