Activities
Weekly Group Meetings
O-YES members meet on a weekly basis to discuss their different learning styles, struggles they are currently facing in their classes, study strategies which they have found to be beneficial, and to listen to guest speakers such as people from the community who have successful careers despite their learning problems.
Individual Presentations
Once each member/student in O-YES understands their learning style completely, and strategies which help them learn best, they prepare an individual presentation including the history of their learning difficulty, their current learning profile, ways they have learned to compensate, and how information in the classroom, including visual or auditory aids, can be presented to enhance their learning. Generally, a practice presentation is first given to other O-YES members. Once perfected, the individual student gives his/her presentation to a panel of current teachers.
Outreach Program
O-YES members are also involved in an outreach program where they encourage other students with learning differences to take ownership of their own academic fate by discovering how they learn best and by seeking guidance from their teachers. O-YES outreach programs target students in lower grades on campus and students attending other high schools in the community.
