Middle School Overview
Key features of the middle school curriculum are an increased emphasis on critical thinking, carefully sequenced development of academic skills, and involvement in community. Middle school students learn essential study skills and have an increased level of responsibility for academic work.
In sixth grade, students take five academic subjects along with physical education, computer key-boarding and word processing, study skills, music, art, drama, sustained silent reading, and library skills. In seventh and eighth grades, students are required to take five academic subjects, art, and physical education. They also have an expanded choice of music and drama electives, as well as opportunities in student government for leadership roles and participation in a wide variety of committees.
