Welcome to Metairie Park Country Day Lower School, a supportive learning community that respects all of its members and challenges them to surpass their own expectations. Dedicated to meeting the unique needs and celebrating the diverse contributions of each student, the faculty in collaboration with staff, other learning professionals, and parents offer instruction tailored to the individual child. The Lower School awakens students to the larger world and stimulates their investigation of it in an atmosphere of excitement and discovery.

As you peek into busy classrooms, the happy buzz of activity surrounds you even before you are able to take in the generous size of the rooms and the charm of the art-filled walls. From groups of giggly kindergartners learning to make capital letters to engrossed fifth graders experimenting with inclined planes, our children are encouraged to actively solve problems in an atmosphere of flexible structure. Working individually or in groups, children gain experience with academic subjects as they develop independence, tolerance, and a spirit of cooperation.

Our guests can't help but notice the warm relationship that exists between our teachers and their students, one of the advantages of our multi-age groupings. Young students begin their academic career by spending three years with the same pair of partner-teachers. Using the family as a model, our youngsters share their classroom with older and younger peers. As a result of the caring atmosphere, they feel comfortable and nurtured while they begin to explore the worlds of reading, writing, math, history, science, international languages, the arts, and technology.

The challenging curriculum, experienced teachers and staff, beautiful environment, and talented students make Lower School a remarkable learning community.
